The five of us got an early start and were first in line Friday for the drive to Hurricane Ridge where we found sunny skies and temps in the 20s. The road was clear until near the parking lot, where there is ice.
The trail is hard-packed and we used microspikes to the top. Snowcover is actually a bit thin.
As the guidebooks note, hikers can choose to go up and over the ridges along the way or take a trail to the left that skirts the steep sidehills. This way is mostly safe but has some exposure. Experience and poles are recommended under current snow conditions. A man with a young boy in tennis shoes made their way across but gave us a real scare.
