Seven of us hiked and snowshoed up the Dalles Ridge Road 72 in clear but downright chilly conditions. The road is gated at Highway 410 to protect wintering wildlife but there is parking space for maybe three vehicles.
The area has seen some new snow recently, creating some pretty scenery along the tree-shrouded road. Two of our party forsook snowshoes and made it up fine in the beaten path.
There are a couple of viewpoints, one at about 2 miles and the second a mile later, where Mt. Rainier is visible beyond the peaks.
