We hiked to Olallie Lake via the Pratt Lake Trail with spikes and poles and had a lovely day hiking. There is snow on the trail most of the way from the trailhead to the lake. While it was raining heavily in Seattle, we had a magical time in the woods somehow hitting a window for our hike with very little rain. Highly recommended for a day hike in a winter wonderland setting.

Curious about the quality of the snow. Slushy? sticking to spikes? I'm leading a Talapus-Olallie from Exit 47 trip on March 4 and I know a lot can change between now and then. Trying to stay current about conditions without getting out this week in the gale winds and rain -- which will probably continue to change things... Thanks for your input.

You are right that the trail will certainly change between now and 3/4, but yesterday, it was slushy at the very beginning and then most of the way up, it was packed down. The snow did not stick to my spikes. My spikes held their own and supported me well. Hope you have a great trip!
