Absolutely gorgeous February day in the rain shadow of the Olympic mountains. Felt like I found gold when the skies cleared and the sun came out for a couple of hours before the clouds came back in to take the views away.
I hiked the Dungeness spit instead of the trails on the mainland which looks to be about 10 miles to the lighthouse and back, easily doable if you plan ahead. Mind the tides, the easiest walking is the best at low tide. Should go without saying but pack all your needed water at the start. I didn’t and had to turn back early because of that.
About 4 miles in I got super lucky and spotted a bald eagle on a driftwood perch scanning the low tide mudflats in the bay for his lunch. Got lots of pictures and wish that WTA let us post more than 4.
