Fallsview Canyon (Falls View) — Tuesday, Mar. 11, 2025

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal
Falls View from short loop trail

Falls View Campground is closed in the winter but the trail is open, you just have to park outside the gate.  I arrived at 9:30 and was the only one here.  I initially took the short loop to look at the falls, which is a tall waterfall across the canyon. Nothing really really exciting, but it is a graceful waterfall.  The overlook is very high, but there is a fence to keep you safe.

I then hiked the Falls View Canyon trail.  This trail starts off with a very steep downhill aided by lots of steps.  It then levels off to a relatively easy hike along the canyon wall following the Big Quilcene River. The river side of the trail is fairly steep down to the river, so be careful.  I hiked this trail for about a mile until I found a location where I could reach the river.  I stopped there to eat a snack before heading back. The water in the river was very cold and clear, and peaceful.

The trail is in good condition, but needs a little maintenance.  There are some logs which fell across the trail but were not difficult to cross.  A good brief hike to break up the trip along US 101. =efh=
