English Boom — Monday, Mar. 17, 2025

Puget Sound and Islands > San Juan Islands

We are camped at Bayview SP and on our way to visit English Boom for the first time we drove to the Chilberg Road to see if there were still snow geese in the area where we had seen thousands yesterday. Today there were as many and maybe more as 3 fields had large flocks of geese. While we were watching the activity, 2 of the fields joined the third.  Such a beautiful sight and sound! After enjoying the geese we continued on to English Boom where the tide was at its lowest. After reading the informative signs at the kiosk near the parking lot, we walked the short estuary trail which had a few muddy areas which were mostly easily avoided. The highlight of our time there was watching a kingfisher successfully catch a few tiny fish. Because of the low tide the only other bird seen was a song sparrow.

I’m loving all the kingfishers this spring!
