Last fall I had heard that there were some new accessible trails, picnic areas, and river views that were developed along the Middle Fork Snoqualmie Road. My husband had the afternoon free and we really wanted to get out of the house, but we’re also really tired, so we wanted something easy. I thought the Middle Fork would be the perfect place to get some fresh air and check out somewhere new.
The Mine Creek Day Use Area was our first stop. A new parking area has been developed just around the bend from where we often see folks kayaking and accessing the river. There’s a new pit toilet, too. Wide, flat gravel trails take you out to the river through mossy forest. There are some picnic tables near the river, with easy access down to the water. We recorded just over a mile of trail on the loop we took.
Then we drove down and checked out the new Russian Butte View access point. There’s a short trail to the river, with wooden logs to sit on and reflect while you admire the view. Russian Butte was hiding in the clouds, but it was still a nice spot.
We ended up at the big Middle Fork trailhead, where we checked out the new paths and picnic tables. There are some huge trees back there!
Any of these spots would make a fine destination for families of all ages to enjoy the forest and river. I’m so happy to see more development making access for all close to town.
