Trip Report

Capitol State Forest - Porter Falls — Thursday, Apr. 10, 2025

Olympic Peninsula > Olympia
Porter Creek Falls

We hiked the trail to Porter Falls yesterday and found that there is a new, easier trail that branches off from the former trail just before it starts climbing.  The new trail branches left and follows the creek until it joins the former trail - just before the area that is muddy year round.  We hiked both trails.

The water is running impressively high.

The trail is somewhat muddy, but traversible without difficulty (my dog loved it, but did need a bath when we got home).  The one area that is muddy year round is hard to avoid without getting muddy shoes, but even that wasn't too bad if you are careful.

There are numerous wildflowers blooming - trilliums (we saw 100 or more), johhny jump up violets, blooming shamrocks and more.

Sorry.  I don't know how to make the pictures justified correctly to portrait instead of landscape . . .
