Trip Report

Sauer's Mountain — Sunday, Apr. 27, 2025

Central Cascades > Leavenworth Area

This is a beautiful trail made even more spectacular with all the wildflowers blooming in force! We arrived right around 9:00am on Sunday and took the second-to-last parking space. There is a porta potty at the trailhead, though I'm not sure it's cleanliness as it wasn't used by my group.

The balsamroot which greets you at the trailhead and abounds all the way to the summit was truly incredible, in addition to all the other wildflowers dotting the trail. As the above trail description mentions, soon after starting the hike you are presented with a fork. We opted to go left on the way up, which was a great choice for us. We loved the wide open views of the nearby mountains and valley. There are certainly steep sections of the hike, but all the views (keep an eye out for Glacier Peak!) and flowers were wonderful distractions and prompted some natural breaks for photos. On the way back down, we took the other route, but I slightly preferred the other side and think I would do an out-and-back the way I came up when I do this hike again.

All in all, it was a great hike and one I certainly recommend. Please help keep this trail open for everyone by respecting the limited parking and following the posted signs in the lot.
