It may be a little early. The parking lot is still snow covered. Very high clearance required.
The first 10 minutes of the trail are mostly snow covered. Then it is bare until the 3rd switchback. Solid snow when you swing around above the basin. Two trees across the trail that are easy enough to get by.
Small trilliums and marsh marigolds are abundant.

Thanks Hiker Rich for the update! You beat me to it this year. I have gone up to the Katwalk in the middle of May for the past few years and written trip reports. So if anyone is interested in reading about typical conditions this time of the year, search by "Kendall Katwalk" and author "Uli". Hint: Ice ax and crampons are a good choice this time of the year for the last half mile before the Katwalk.
