Backpacked out to 5 mile camp Thursday - Monday for the holiday weekend. The trail is in great condition up until 5 mile camp, then it gets pretty overgrown with some blow downs. 5 mile was pretty busy Friday night but quieted down throughout the weekend, lots of backpackers went to 10 mile camp successfully.
Found a couple ticks, one was so small it looked like a speck of dirt - tick checks should be routine now in Western Washington unfortunately.
Campfires - Just about everyone around us did NOT put their campfires out when they went to bed, or during the day for that matter. I got up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and saw the bright red glow of a fire pit. Fire season is approaching and this is totally unacceptable behavior. The biggest cause of forest fires are from roots igniting underground from abandoned fire pits.
A fire is not out until it is COLD to the touch.

Thanks for the report. Sounds like a fun trip (except for the ticks). Solid reminder on the fires needing to be out cold. Thanks for keeping an eye on the situation and spreading the word.
