This is a wonderful hike. The waterfalls at the beginning are a nice treat, the forest along the trail is gorgeous, and the lake at the end is stunning. It’s a great option if you’re looking for a day hike on the I-90 corridor.
The road getting in has lots of potholes but any car can handle it. I made it to the trailhead just fine in my low clearance Honda Fit.
The trail is well marked and easy to follow. I’d say anyone in moderate shape could do this hike - just take the steeper parts at your own pace.
The trail has one downed tree blocking the path (picture below), but it’s relatively easy to get around. The trail also has wooden docks for the muddier parts. I believe those were put into place by WTA volunteers many years ago - thank you WTA!
I used trekking poles and found them helpful for getting up and down the trail, but most hikers I saw were managing just fine without them
I used a whiff of DEET when I first started the hike and that seemed to keep the bugs away - I came home with zero bites. The bugs are starting to come out, but there aren’t too many this time of year.
There were 7 cars in the lot at 9am on a Monday and there were 12 cars in the lot when I left at 2pm. It was a very quiet day and the lake was serene
The only thing to note - as of today, the privy at the main parking lot is closed for maintenance. No ETA on when it will reopen yet.
Would recommend.
