Trip Report

Talapus and Olallie Lakes — Friday, Jun. 6, 2025

Snoqualmie Region > Snoqualmie Pass
Mama enjoying her day out
Adoptable pup Mama Kier joined me & another Seattle Humane volunteer on this hike Friday. https://www.seattlehumane.org/pet-detail/?pet=57853329

Road to trailhead: Beware of car-swallowing pothole where the asphalt changes to gravel. Tons of slightly smaller potholes from there to the trailhead. Passable for a regular sedan, just go slow.

People: Arrived around 11am. There was already a line of cars at least a half mile up the road from the trailhead. But we got lucky and snagged a spot in the lot. Probably saw 30+ people. But it never felt crowded, lots of solitude in between groups. Leaving @ 3:30, the line of cars was closer to 1mi long.

Dog-Friendly: Good visibility to see if other dogs are heading your way. Very wide trail, with plenty of places to pull off to let others pass.

Trail: Lots of roots & green, but I didn’t notice any flowers/other colors 😊 Some of the paths down to the lakes are a little steep & rooty, so watch your step. If you're hiking with kids, there are a few narrow bridges where you're definitely going to want to hold their hands. Trail grade is pretty moderate.

Trail conditions: Fantastic! A few very tiny water crossings, easy for a person to step across.

Gear: Poles advised, not required.

Bugs: Didn't notice any bugs until we got to Ollalie Lake. They were pretty annoying there.

Wildlife: Just some squirrels. But they were VERY bold. Almost like they were taunting our dog - running parallel to the trail as we moved past, or instead of running UP the tree to get away from dog, ran TOWARDS the side the dog was on just to stare back :)
