North Cascades > Mount Baker Area
Snow on trail

Hiked up to Elbow Lake and Lake Doreen to try and find some fish. Trail was in good condition, looked like some work had been done recently. Much appreciated, thank you WTA! There were 4 spots with trees across the trail, but all were easily passable. Towards the lake, there were some snowy patches and brushy spots. Definitely should have put my rain gear on as I got to this area to at least keep the wet plants from soaking my clothes.

On the way in, I chose the upstream river crossing. I scooted across a log that was hanging up over the river where I assume the old bridge was. Not great, but doable. As I hiked along across the river, I found the trail block pointing folks to the more substantial log with ropes for crossing. I ended up taking this route on the way back across. Much better. Highly recommend taking this downstream log crossing.

All in all, a lovely, quiet hike in a beautiful forest with big trees and lots of flowers this time of year. I did not encounter another person the whole time, though there was 1 other car at the trailhead by the time I got back. Lots of birds, flowers, and berries to come.

Stats: 7 miles RT, 1500 ft elevation gain, 2 hr 30 min hiking time, no people
