We arrived at the TH around 8:15a on a sunny Tue morning. The lot was about half full. The toilet had no paper and needed servicing. There's a parking pass machine if you find yourself at the TH without a NW Forest Pass.
The first part of this trail is in the forest and the path is wide. It transitions to a narrower steeper path in the forest with a few more roots and rocks but not too bad. Eventually you pop out of the trees with great views of Mt Rainier. There are a few wildflowers blooming as well.
The bugs were worst at the lake. There were swarms but they weren't mosquitos or other biting bugs, just swarming bugs.
The trail seemed busy for a Tue. The lot was full by the time we returned to the TH in the early afternoon.

Hi Katherine, its actually a NW Forest Service Pass that is required for this hike. Just don't want folks to be confused.

Thanks! I wasn't driving, so I didn't get the pass out. I'll correct that!
