French Cabin Mountain, Silver Creek Tie — Sunday, Jun. 15, 2025

Snoqualmie Region > Salmon La Sac/Teanaway
What are these spheres? Just bubbles?

Writing this up a few days late, but I suspect conditions are still largely the same.

We did a loop (outlined in black on the map below), beginning in the upper right-hand corner and moving clockwise. Our first challenge was crossing French Cabin Creek. Not very deep, but cold! We took off our shoes, rolled up our pants, and hightailed it across.

There was some snow on the trail to the southeast of French Cabin Mountain's main summit. It wasn't difficult to cross - we didn't punch through or anything - but it was sometimes tricky to find the trail on the other side.

Despite the snow, there was not enough flowing water to filter until we reached the small creek to the southeast of French Cabin Mountain (see map). That creek was our first opportunity to refill our bottles since we crossed French Cabin Creek minutes after leaving the car, but the flow was relatively low so filling up the BeFree was a challenge. If you can hold out until you reach Silver Creek, I'd recommend it.

We were able to cross Silver Creek uneventfully, keeping our feet dry both times. Sections of trail heading north from the Silver Creek crossings toward French Tongue were badly waterlogged. Once the trail starts to head downhill, there was more snow to cross - including a couple of steep slopes. We carried spikes and axes and did not use them - but maybe should have.
