It was my first time hiking on the boundary trail and it was stunning! You get up close views of Mt St Helens starting from the junction at the Hummocks Trail and Boundary Trail. Wildflowers were blooming everywhere, including paintbrush, lupine, and more. The trail slowly climbs up toward the Observatory. It was quite dry and there were a few narrow spots, but totally do-able with careful footing. It wasn't too crowded and sitting up on the benches at the Observatory while it was closed was a pretty cool experience. Unfortunately the clouds rolled in about 30 min into our hike, but the views of the valley were still beautiful! Even with the clouds, the trail is pretty exposed so it felt warm even in 60-degree weather.
We drove over to Coldwater Lake after and it was serene, I recommend stopping there.
