To respect your time if you’re reading this, we did not make it to Mildred Point.
On the Comet Falls trail early and only encountered one large,downed tree. I was able to crawl under while my son opted to go over the top. The falls were beautiful but our ultimate goal was to press on to the alpine. We encountered intermittent compressed snow but was very manageable until the turnoff to Van Trump Park. We crossed multiple snow bridges, some more questionable than others and found ourselves periodically post holing. My son was coming off a 24 hour shift and looking at how much time it was taking to progress through these areas. We opted to tackle this on a later date. After the falls, we only encountered one group of hikers that were enroute to Van Trump Park. I suspect that you can push on to Mildred but we weighed our options and enjoyed the view of Comet Falls. My best guess is the trail will be mostly snow free in about 2 weeks. I’m also not a meteorologist, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. Happy Trails!
