Trip Report

Marshall's Hill — Thursday, Jul. 3, 2025

Issaquah Alps > Cougar Mountain
Pacific Madrone, located to the east of the De Leo Wall Viewpoint. Beautiful! Must see!

Our trip started off on Indian Trail W7 at around 8am. There were no other cars parked at our trailhead.

The hike itself was calm and peaceful, with a lot of bird activity today. Far Country Falls was the first stop, and it is a very slow trickle. There's still some beautiful views of water dripping down the moss.

For our loop we continued up Indian Trail to W1 - Wildside Trail, then over to Marshall's Hill Trail. Quiet and peaceful. Eventually we make our way up to Marshall's Hill, which was unexpectedly steep but not too challenging. This was where we encountered our challenge however. We decided before hand to take Viewpoint #2 trail from the top of Marshall's Hill down to De Leo Wall Viewpoint. We were able to identify the trail, and were able to hike down it. However, it is extremely overgrown. At points you are practically pushing yourself through multiple ferns, so if you don't have pants, be prepared to walk through the bush. You also need to be very aware of where you're stepping through here, as there is still a lot of wildlife that is hidden beneath the leaves. It is quite steep downwards, however, it was still straightforward to navigate as you could always spot the trail as it made its way down the mountain.

After we made it through that section of the trail, we got to enjoy a beautiful view at the viewpoint, and a quiet hike until we got back to the start. Overall, we saw 2 trail runners, 1 solo hiker, and 2 groups of hikers.
