Recent trip reports paint a good picture of this hike and current conditions. My biggest recommendation is to make sure to go on a sunny, clear day so you get the full impact of the mountain in your face! I would not do this hike on a day when Rainier is socked in because the road to get there is HORRIBLE!
We saw four bears, lots of avalanche lilies and the various wildflowers in the meadows were just starting. Lots of bugs but the breeze just made them annoying. Obviously, stopping for a snack/lunch is fantastic from any location but we did proceed to the overlook found after taking a right at the "T" in the trail at the end of Grand Park.
