Trip Report

Kendall Katwalk, Gravel Lake - Ridge Lake — Sunday, Jul. 6, 2025

Snoqualmie Region > Snoqualmie Pass

Our hiking group arrived at the Kendall Katwalk/PCT North trailhead at Snoqualmie pass at 7:15AM.  Parking lot roughly 1/2 full.  Bathroom clean and stocked.  On the trail at 7:30AM.

The PCT heading up to the Katwalk is generally in good shape, with just a few patches of mud and the usual rocky stretches.  There are two good creeks between the trailhead and the Katwalk where water can be filtered.  There is one large blow down of trees a bit before you reach the open slope area (see photo).  Not hard to cross but you have to leave the trail and go over/under trees to get through it.

The steep snow field just before the Katwalk is shrinking fast now (see photo).  We were able to cross just using poles, no microspikes.  The snow is getting slushy and slippery, so watch your footing.

The Katwalk is spectacular as ever.  There are some snow fields/patches between the Katwalk and Ridge Lake.  Again, having poles was handy, but no microspikes needed, and there was no post-holing.  There is one significant blow down between Katwalk and the lake where you have to go under the tree, and another smaller one where you can cross by stepping over the logs (See Photos).  The bugs at the lake were out in force, so come prepared for that.
