White Chuck Mountain — Sunday, Jul. 6, 2025

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway
J signing summit log.

Late last year after tagging Pugh with my youngest, I found this hike while wondering what this peak was and it's been stuck in my head. Last few weeks I noticed my priorities were not giving this hike a fair shake. So, I spent the first two days of the three-day weekend knocking out some home projects hoping it would be enough to get a hall pass for today.

Picked up J, my eldest, around 8 in the morn for a pedestrian start and were at the TH by 10:30 with one other truck. We ran into the truck owner while we were still in the trees. He was coming back after getting turned around and losing the trail higher up.

I "generally" knew the route and felt confident we ( J & J) could make it work, worse case we'd turn back if it was not what we expected.

Fortunately, if you take your time, the "trail" will reveal itself. We had no issues and while the exposure certainly was significant, we soon were on top and signing the summit log!!

We had about half an hour on top to our selves soaking in all the stunning 360 views and getting a sunburn.

Heading back down we saw a goat who appeared to be quite interested in us and followed us for a bit down the high ridge. We also spied a nanny and kid on the other peak north of us.

This hike is not for beginners. Have a plan and know what your doing.

Got back to the truck and bounced back down to MLH before stopping at Darrington Shell for a couple of cold fountain drinks.

Amazing hike and just when I think the views can't get better, they absolutely do!

What was the snow level up there. I don't plan on climbing the mountain but just as you come out of the woods and up part way.

Drive up is snow free. There is minimal snow on the entire route and any existing snow patches can easily be skirted.
