Knocked out Guye Peak (North) and Cave Ridge this morning. 7 of the Snoqualmie 20 done! Highlights:
- Arrived at the trailhead at 6:45, and there were about 4 other cars, with construction workers arriving to work on the Alpental chairlift. When I got back down at 10am, there were about 30 other cars in the parking lot.
- The bugs are getting annoying up there. Was bit by mosquitoes a fair few times on the summit of Cave Ridge.
- Trail is mostly dry with a very small section that has some water running down over rocky trail
The trail up to the Guye Peak turn-off is still as steep and dusty as I remember it from when I did Snoqualmie Mountain. At the turn-off for Guye Peak, you pass through a boulder field with some easy class 2 scrambling as it opens up to easier terrain traversing trail up to the saddle between Guye and Cave Ridge. I first went up Guye.
If you go up Guye Peak, the path splits in two at the small pond at 4700ft. Around the left side of the pond, the path continue steeply upwards on loose dusty soil. The right side continues up through a trial that goes mostly over rocks and between boulders. I recommend going up the right side, it was a lot more fun than the left ;) The Guye Peak summit is pretty exposed, but easy to scramble on. I didn't stick around long since the mosquitoes found me pretty quickly.
Decided against hitting the middle summit of Guye Peak, and came back down the other trail. At the intersection at the saddle, I headed up Cave Ridge. I really recommend adding this on if you do Guye Peak! It only adds on about 1.25 miles of very moderate terrain. Very fun day out. 3hr 15min car-to-car
