Trip Report

Snowgrass Flat — Sunday, Jul. 13, 2025

South Cascades > Goat Rocks

We hiked in on the Snowgrass Flat trail on a Sunday and setup camp near where the Snowgrass Trail meets the PCT. There weren't many people there, and most of the campsites were empty so we had our pick of sites. That would definitely not happen on a weekend!

The forecast was off by about 10 degrees and it was much hotter than expected. It was 85 degrees at the trailhead, and around 78 when we arrived at camp at 6,200 ft. I ended up with heat exhaustion so didn't do much hiking but loved being in such a scenic area. There was a lot of wind at night that shook our tents at times.

Wildflowers are everywhere, and so are mosquitoes. They bit through clothes sprayed with Permethrin, so be prepared for them if you go. My friend hiked a lot while we were there while I rested at camp. She said Goat Lake was mostly covered in ice and surrounded by snow. The only other significant snow on the trail was as she hiked closer to Old Snowy. None on the way to Cispus Pass.
