Johns River State Wildlife Area — Tuesday, Jul. 15, 2025

Southwest Washington > Long Beach Area

Most of the trip reports for this area are for the paved trail portion of this hiking area.  On the other side of this trail across the water is another trail that many do not know exists.  This is known as the John's River Crossover Trail.  The trail is located just before the Ocean Spray plant if coming from Aberdeen area or just after if coming from Westport.  More of a defunct service road that is a bit overgrown in some areas.  This road leads to a history of this area that many are not aware of.  About 1.7 miles from the small parking area you will find a small trail of sorts that will lead you to a cemetery that has gravestones dating back to before 1900.  This is an amazing place to explore.  Also a nice place to find solitude as well.
