7am start, had the trail to myself. a few other cars in the campground but it seemed like no one had hiked the trail in a few days. trail is mostly in good condition, but a section of the lemei trail was pretty overgrown. mosquitoes were atrocious, almost on par with florida or alaska. stop for a few seconds and they swarm you. definitely the place to bring deet or wear permethrin-treated stuff if you’re into that. saw a bunch of western toads and a cascades frog. lovely views of st. helens and adams, though slightly marred by the nearby fire. maybe wait for less bugs and less smoke. overall it’s a nice hike. finished at 10:45am
