Big Four Ice Caves — Wednesday, Jul. 23, 2025

The trail was stunning! I had foot surgery three weeks ago and hiked it in a walking boot. It had enough elevation to make it feel like a hike but was completely doable with the boot. Fairly empty on a weekday. Forest was beautiful, alpine meadows were stunning, ice caves were astounding. We didn't approach them for safety. I even got proposed to! If you have anyone in your party who needs a shorter hike for any reason (age, fitness, injury) this is a perfect choice. It's short but you get such a full experience of Washington majesty. We cooled off in the river after which was deliciously freezing!
