Our group has of Mountaineers set out to hike Hugo Peak at 9:00am. The parking lot is small, but there is fortunately another larger lot a short walk up the road. The trail gains roughly 1000ft over the 2.2 miles from the parking lot to the “peak”. There are a few spots where you can stop for a view overlooking the valley. The highlight is the view of (what we assumed was) Eatonville from the short spur trail from the peak area. The top has a nice set of log benches and a little trail register that we signed.
Overall Hugo Peak isn’t the most exciting hike, but it was nice to be in the shade and on a pretty quiet trail. I will warn that the trail can be a bit slippery in the steeper areas with pea gravel coming back down. A few of us slid and I took a little hit to my hip slipping, even with my poles for balance. Still a good day for a hike!
