Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal

SO MANY HORSEFLIES!!!!! Beautiful trail, we have been here multiple times throughout the seasons, just never summer. we wore bug spray yet they were all over us indeed. the hike is lovely and the trail is clean and maintained, but Be Prepared to swing at some feisty insects.🦟

Sorry to hear that. Horseflies or black flies? The kind that are the size of hornets and come one at a time or the ones like house flies that attack in multitudes?

Went up to see for ourselves. I concur. Horseflies. We’ve never seen that many horseflies anywhere. There were some black flies too, and down in the shady parts there were mosquitoes. We swabbed ourselves w picardin before leaving the parking lot and that seemed to keep the flies (mostly) from biting but still they were super annoying and persistent from trailhead to summit. Anyway, thanks for the warning so we could be prepared.
