The road to the trailhead has potholes and about 200 yards before the parking lot there is a section of road washout that you'll want to decide whether to drive or park at the side of the road before it. It it is passable as I not only saw SUV's and trucks at the trailhead, but a Tesla Sedan. :-) There were about 10 cars when I arrived.
The trail is generally in good condition (no blowdowns), but it is direct (up), with short switchbacks, and a good deal of roots for 3 miles. At the crest of the ridge it flattens before dropping down for about one mile to the Lake.
Bugs were not an issue and huckleberrys are there for the picking. The lake is beautiful and a few folks were enjoying a swim.
Timeline: Left Seattle at 6:30 AM, arrived at the trailhead at 8:30, arrived at lake at 11:30, spent an hour for lunch and returned to trailhead at 2:20. Back in Seattle at 4:30.
