The ice field to the camp is steep and slow-going. Bring micro spikes, sunscreen, sunglasses, water, etc. Take a few minutes to bring what’s needed. It’s not a typical hike, especially if you don’t hike in snow or on ice much. It’s amazing but I wasn’t feeling confident about glissading the chutes so close to the rocks and didn’t want to inch down the field at a snail’s pace so headed back a mile from the shelter. Not sure I missed much by way of views but it’s always nice to get to the destination. Maybe next time. Not busy at all today either. Mileage is more like 10 miles for most people. We clocked at 8.5 without the two miles we decided not to do.
