Plan A was to tour the big trees along the coast today, but because of the Russian earthquake and threat of tsunamis/strong currents, the coastal trails were closed today, but Plan B at Marymere didn't disappoint.
We arrived to the trailhead a little after 5 p.m. on a partly cloudy Wednesday afternoon, hoping to arrive after crowds. We were in luck, with the parking lot 2/3 full. The trail offers beautiful views of Lake Crescent early on, then flows through the forest with several huge trees to admire. This would be a great trail in all kinds of weather, as the canopy blocks the sun. We saw toddlers to folks in their 70s walking it.
Smoke from the Bear Gulch Fire (south) crept in the area starting mid afternoon, but not enough to affect the air quality too much. It was affecting mountain views though.
We arrived back to the trailhead around 6:40.
