In all those years of hiking, we never explored the beautiful old growth forest of Hoypus Point. The trailhead is at the Cornet Bay Marina which is equipped with a real bathroom and ample parking. We hiked the shortest possible loop but included a side trip to the former ferry dock, 4.5 miles, about 350' cumulative gain. Hiking the old road to the ferry dock has nice views of Deception Pass and more. Proceeding clockwise, the best old growth is encountered soon. Stands of big trees are scattered throughout, however,
A lot of windfall had been cleared (big thank you), but a few downed trees across the trail were left. None are a real obstacle.
It was much cooler and less muggy than in Seattle, and bugs thankfully were no problem.
