Melakwa Lake — Thursday, Jul. 31, 2025

Snoqualmie Region > Snoqualmie Pass

A lot has changed about this hike since I did it last in 1980. Park, now,  in the middle lot and take the path down and follow the old trail head road across the now closed car bridge to the trail head. The lower part of the trail is quite nice but once you cross Denny Creek the trail gets serious with a lot more rocks than I remember!  We had both lakes to ourselves and camped on the NE side of the lower lake (nicest campsite I think). Very few bugs but chilly and windy. We took 3 hours to get to the lakes, 2.4 hours down but I hiked down pretty carefully as I didn't want to fall.  On the way down a ranger asked if we saw any bear activity (and asked if we made a fire); we did not on both accounts.
