Fire and Ice Trail — Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025

North Cascades > Mount Baker Area

Don’t sleep on this trail!

The half mile loop around Terminal lake is absolutely beautiful. Wildflowers abound and the views of Table Mountain, Bagley lakes, and the surrounding peaks are gorgeous. The small creeks that flow alongside the trail are really wonderful.

About 1/3 of the trail is paved leading to a viewpoint of Bagley Lakes. The rest of the trail is hard packed earth or gravel. There’s no major elevation gain or loss throughout the entire loop. This trailhead starts directly next to the bathrooms in the parking lot for the Heather Meadows visitor center.

I would definitely recommend this trail if you are traveling with young kids or older folks or using assistive mobility devices or have a senior dog like myself. I did this trail at 6:30 AM and had it entirely to myself.
