Trip Report

Little Kachess — Sunday, Aug. 3, 2025

Snoqualmie Region > Snoqualmie Pass
This was the best viewpoint...

Spent a few nights at Kachess Lake Campground and decided to check this trail out one evening. The trail starts at the north end of the campground and is not signed as far as I could tell. The first quarter mile-ish is an improved, accessible trail leading to a wooden observation platform...except for the fact that the bridge over Box Canyon Creek is gone, necessitating a rock hop.

After the observation platform, the trail condition deteriorates rapidly. Lots of rocks and roots to navigate as the trails climbs up and down repeatedly, all while clinging to the cliffs several hundred feet above the lake. I would NOT recommended brining children on this trail, as there are several spots where a fall would actually be quite catastrophic. There are occasional views out over the lake and up valley toward the mountains, but overall this hike felt like a lot of work for relatively little payoff. Not sure exactly how far I hiked...I walked for about an hour and then turned around and headed back to camp for dinner. The ripe berries were nice, but seemed pretty well picked over.
