The dirt road to the trailhead was really bad. I would not bring a "normal" car on this road. You WILL bottom out in spots and could damage your suspension. Got to the trailhead on Saturday around 10am and it was full. We got the last spot. After hitting the trail we were immediately harassed by horseflies/tiger flies. Their bite is very painful and our bug spray helped only a little. The main trail is well maintained and actually rather pretty in some places. The rhododendrons toward the beginning made that section of trail almost tropical. We camped below the mine among the boulders. The mine itself was great. There's a lot of balancing on boards and metal tubes to make it further back into the mine. Our shoes got wet but not too bad. Definitely bring your sticks with you. The mine was very cold as well but we managed just fine in shorts and T shirt. The trails are unmarked here and we could not find the trail to the B-17. Many of the trails around the mine in this area are not well managed or marked.
