Deer and Sand Lake — Friday, Aug. 15, 2025

this was our original backup plan, pivoted to once the forecast indicated rain- ie minimal views. we got wet from mist and some steady periods of light rain, although it never rained hard. weather may or may not have helped with bugs. noticed more near deer lake, although they weren't awful, but noticable when we stopped. sand lake looked moody with fog and we enjoyed looking at all the prints in the sand (mostly dogs but maybe a few others ). saw only a few other hikers- including a larger group of young men returning from backpacking when we parked. a few flowers still sticking around like lupin in meadow areas near the lakes.
