We started around 8am on Tuesday and there was still plenty of parking.
We did the trail counterclockwise for the sustained views. The way down was steep and the trail was blown out in places. Other than Rainy Lake, there's not much to see on that side. If you're ok not doing the full loop, you could go up counterclockwise until you reach the switchbacks heading down, then turn around and go back the way you came. For the sense of completion, I'm happy we did the full loop.
The detour to Lake Ann was .6mi one way not round trip as the description states. Overall my garmin clocked this hike at 8.31 mi with the detour.
We saw marmots, deer, and either grouse or ptarmigan. We heard the pikas but didn't see them.
