Long day hike for me to Big Heart. Definitely disappointed I pooped out at Big Heart and didn't go further to see Angeline. I got in trouble at Copper with the amazing morning reflection and couldn't stop taking pics. I was in alpine lakes heaven.
Next time I will not spend as much time at the beginning lakes and try to get as far as possible without backpacking.
Road: Paved for a mile then gravel with minimal potholes. Turn off is one lane and had the most potholes for remainder 2 miles.
Toilet: Excellent condition. Clean and did not smell. Toilet paper stocked.
Vegetation: Wildflowers are spent, Blueberries are in. Wow, they were abundant and delicious.
Trail: After hiking in the Olympics, this trail was easy! Trail is in good shape. Rocks and roots to be expected. Two easy creek crossings, some logs to go over and under all doable. The one big fallen tree is easy to cross once you figure out someone has strategically placed wood against it to climb up. There are steps carved in the tree to get down.
Surprised how few people were on trail. Only one other day hiker on trail going my direction. Saw a total of 10 people on the way in (9 backpackers). On my way out I saw many more backpackers making their way up. Mostly young men with fishing poles.
I wish there was a short cut or back door into this area!
