This might be one of our favorite hikes this year! We had an amazing day at Monte Cristo. The trail is shaded for so much of it that we didn’t feel the heat at all. A few rocky sections but overall the trail is nice and flat with no obstacles. We were able to cross the river by stepping on rocks and then had fun checking out the log crossings on the way back. The townsite was so cool! It was fun to imagine what it was like when it was operational. We got to meet the unofficial Mayor of Monte Cristo and she showed us her cabin. Thank you! We explored all around the town which added 2 miles by the time we finished our exploring. Picnic tables at the townsite make a great area to stop and have lunch. Some flowers blooming here and there. Lots of huckleberries to pick! And so many butterflies. We had an amazing day. Also, congratulations to my kids, today’s hike put them over 300 miles for the year! 🎉
