Trip Report

Grand Park via Lake Eleanor — Sunday, Aug. 24, 2025

Mount Rainier Area > NE - Sunrise/White River

Drove to the Lake Eleanor trailhead on Road FS 73 with a Chevy Equinox.  We made it, but it is not a suitable vehicle for such a rough road with giant potholes.

The trail is in good shape, and the bugs were barely noticeable.  The blueberry and huckleberry bushes were pretty well picked over except for the stretch of trail on the final ascent into Grand Park (about 5500' elevation).  There you could find many low blueberry bushes with plentiful berries.

The wildflowers are done in Grand Park, but there was a smattering of them in the meadow just south of Lake Eleanor.

When we arrived at the trail junction at the south end of Grand Park, some volunteer rangers were posting a notice of a recent mountain lion sighting in the area.

Mountain Lion Alert
Blueberries along the trail.
