Bonaparte Trail — Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025

Eastern Washington > Okanogan Highlands/Kettle River Range

Bonaparte is a mixed bag. The trail can be a nasty ATV track at times. It can also efficient and interesting. We parked at an upper trailhead making the trail 3.3 miles oneway with 2600’ gain.
We car camped and got an early start to beat the heat. There were remarkably a few flowers blooming as well as bountiful Grouse Whortle Berries (a very small, low to the ground huckleberry).
The 1914 and 1961 lookouts are fun to visit and the volunteers were very friendly.
