Cascade Pass — Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025

North Cascades > North Cascades Highway - Hwy 20
Looking south from the switchbacks.

Whoa! Even the view from the parking lot is spectacular. Just wait though, it gets better and better.
*   On the trail at 8:40. Still 5 designated parking spots, with plenty of over-flow room along the road.
*   Weather was hiking perfect, high overcast with temps after '10 minutes of up' perfect for shorts and short sleeves.
*   Water was available, but I only used a bit over a liter up and back.
*   Trail is in great shape and super clean. I didn't see even a bit of trash.
*   Got up to the pass in 1-2/3 hrs with plenty of energy and took my place with  12 other hikers to admire the valley to the east toward Stehikan.
*   The pass was my goal but the view overlooking Doubtful Lake was calling so I spent another 40 minutes on another mile and 700' of vert.
*  It was a very worthwhile 40 minutes. Shared the trail with plenty of humans, a trail loving marmot plus a bear and her cub.
*  Such a fantastic hike, it does the national park proud.

Approaching Cascade Pass. After the switchbacks the trail shows it's gentler side.
Doubtful Lake, Sahale Mtn and Sahale Glacier.
