North Cascades > Mount Baker Area

Trip report from Milo, age 5: we started at Artist Point. We hiked on a trail that has a drop on one side and Table Mountain on the other. While your hiking stop at my favorite tree with the Mount Baker Wilderness sign. It has a great view and some shade. We hike the rest of the flat trail to a mountain blueberry patch (junction with Ptarmigan Ridge.) Don’t forget your containers because you’ll have blueberries the whole hike! We hiked the rest of the trail and found a pika. We watched it for a while. There was some mountain blueberry patches right next to the trail. We looked up at the snowy patches and saw Mount Baker. We went down to a junction that was kind of muddy to cross the creek to Mazama Lake. We rock hopped to the other side. While we were at Mazama Lake we ate lunch and swam. We hike into a boulder field and then there was another creek crossing. We took photos and kept hiking. Next lake we saw was iceberg lake. It was a fun view and we picked more mountain blueberries. We hiked to see the view of the lakes on both sides of the trail. Hayes lake and Iceberg Lake.  There are 3 lakes. We hiked the rest of the way. Up a steep hill. More mountain huckleberries that are very blue. We got to Herman Saddle and sat on a big rock. I could see Baker and Shuksan. We hiked a ways down. It was super far before the next blueberry patch. We were on rocks. Rocky trail, very terrainy. We hiked some more flat trail to my other favorite tree, but I didn’t have a long enough rest on it because there were more blueberries. We finish the down part and no more blueberries. There is a pretty stone bridge and then lots of stairs. We went to the lodge next. Then we got in the car and stopped at the Heather Meadows ski lodge and got ice cream. Ice cream is the best. Don’t forget the waterfall on the drive and stop at Picture Lake. Weather was sunny and then cloudy. Just great temperature. Everyone is going to read this and think, wow, I need to do this hike. Hope you like my trip report-Milo
