Trip Report

Lake Ann (Mount Baker Highway) — Saturday, Sep. 6, 2025

North Cascades > Mount Baker Area
Some lingering fireweed just east of the lake

Not that much to say about this hike that others haven't already except to GO NOW if you want lots of blueberries. Tons everywhere - especially if you go east toward Mt. Shuksan a little bit after you get to the lake.

I really enjoyed doing an overnight here and was happy that there were only 6 other groups (I've been there on a weekend counting a dozen tents before!). It was a bit smoky most of Saturday but some clearing toward the evening then real clouds came in and we got some rain overnight. Foggy in and out for breakfast time then the fog settled in for real with that moisture just illuminating every blade of grass, blueberry leaf, etc. and all the spiderwebs coming to life. Even without the big views, a hike with a lot of variety like this (down, across, then up through some meadows, some forest, some boulder fields) is so magical. Lots and lots of pika sounds and a few sightings.

Ahhhh, evening reflection time
Savoring my morning coffee with a view of the lake, and then Mt. Shuksan disappeared!
Enjoying the tiny details on the hike out
