Lower Big Quilcene River — Wednesday, Sep. 10, 2025

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal

The lower Big Quilcene is the most peaceful trail I have ever hiked. We arrived at 9:30 AM on a Wednesday and did not cross paths with anyone the entire day. We hiked around 8.6 miles with 1100+ of elevation gain. The trail is very shaded which was great for a warm day. The trail is very smooth for the first 2.5+ miles and then becomes a little more rocky and uneven but still in great shape. There is a great spot on the river about 3.6 miles from the trailhead for lunch or just a break to enjoy the river. We took advantage of this spot on our return for lunch. We decided to turn around at 4.3 miles. Any distance on this trail would be great to enjoy the canapy of the forest and the beautiful Quilcene River.

The road to the trailhead was very good. The last .5 was very narrow but smooth. The privy was clean and well stocked.

OVERALL A GREAT WOODED HIKE!!!
