Just conquered Mount Si! Let me tell you — the views at the top are absolutely worth it… but oh, you pay for them every step of the way. From the start, you get a gradual incline that tricks you into thinking ‘hey, this isn’t so bad’ and then BAM — you’re smacked with a zig-zag climb straight to hiker hell. It’s 8 miles (and change… emphasis on the change, haha), so patience, snacks, and water are non-negotiable.

I saw some brave souls running up the trail — may the good Lord bless them — but for me it was slow and steady, fueled by 6 clementines, lots of water, and sheer willpower. Two and a half hours later, I was eating lunch (and a victory cookie, treat yo’ self) perched on a cliff with a view that made every burning calf muscle worth it.

Pro tip: take it steady, bring food, and once you reach the top, stay a while — you’ve earned it. And don’t underestimate the way down. Gravity doesn’t make steep inclines less brutal; it just changes the muscle group that screams at you. But with breaks, snacks, and water, you’ll be fine. Mount Si: done, and done again someday… maybe after I forget the pain!
