Granite Creek Trail to Granite Lakes — Tuesday, Sep. 16, 2025

Snoqualmie Region > North Bend Area
smoky haze and a blast of warm air got our attention

There was a high wind advisory, and warnings about possible fire and smoke for the West side of the Cascades. So we were paying attention to conditions around us. Early on in our ascent, we were hit with a blast of hot air, and a slight scent of smoke. We kept going, wondering whether to turn back. I suggested that we consider what we would do if we saw fire nearby. Fortunately, there were no more indications of possible fire. The numerous stream crossings suggested to me that there was enough water around that we should be okay. The wind kept us comfortable as we got a good workout from the climb. At Granite Lake, the sky was clear blue, and there was no sign of smoke or fire. It was a beautiful day.

Since a previous trip report suggested that the toilet was closed, we stopped at the Mine Creek Day Use Area on the way, which has a nice new, clean toilet, well-stocked. It's on the left, two minutes after you pass the parking area for Mailbox Peak.
