Beautiful hike on a beautiful September day! We went first to Big Creek Falls and had lunch on the bridge. This is a longer hike than I am used to but the easy grade meant it was very doable! However, I don’t think 9.2 miles is accurate, it was 5.5 miles before we got to the falls. There wasn’t much water at this time of year with how dry it’s been, but the falls are spectacular anyway.
On the way down we detoured to Otter Creek Falls. This too is well worth the extra mile that it was altogether. Although it’s very dry, there’s a lovely pool that reflects the very unusual rocks over which the water flows. It’s dry enough that people were climbing up the rock flows.
One note of caution: this is a really rocky path. There are large rocks and small rocks and places where there is no footing without rocks. If you have sensitive feet or trouble with that kind of footing, be thoughtful of your footwear. I wouldn’t want to do this hike without poles. Having said all that, I’ll be back!
